RATES

I offer fantastic quality translations for my rates. My clear pricing structure is geared to ease transactions between a host of clients with different needs. Whether you are an individual or the representative of a large publishing house, a press officer or an academic, whether long catalogs or short brochures, I aim to provide a rate that matches the service rendered.

HOW ARE RATES DETERMINED?

TRANSLATION BY VOLUME

I charge per standard line (55 characters including blanks) for short individual translation commissions (7 pages or less). Alternatively, for more extensive translations from publishing houses (8 pages or more), I charge per page (1,800 characters including blanks, or approximately 30 lines).

BY TARGET TEXT

I usually charge based on the length of the target text. I am glad to calculate prices based on a line or word count of the source text to give a rough quote in advance.

BY DIFFICULTY

Before taking on a commission, I will analyze and rate your text line by line. Prices vary depending on the number of pages manageable per hour. The rates listed below are a guideline.

TRANSLATION Price upon Request (POR)

If your text is philosophical in nature, involving the time-consuming cross-checking of aesthetic terminology, references and quotations in primary sources, canonical translations or other secondary literature, or the text itself is the primary source of an aesthetic theory, rates will go up—to be agreed upon in consultation with the client.

Proofreading by Third Parties

All translations undergo proofreading by a qualified third party, at no additional cost.

Proofreading of Final Print

All translations costed by standard page (e.g. with a volume greater than 7 pages) also include the proofreading of final prints at no additional cost.

COPYEDITING & PROOFREADING

Proofreading and copyediting are usually charged per page or by the hour. Prices may vary depending on the number of pages manageable per hour. As a general rule, I charge more for translation editing (a line by line comparison and editing of the English target text with the German source text) and texts written by non-native English speakers.
